Inc’s Family Forum meetings are a time for participants to come together in a low-stress environment to discuss what they’re reading in their newspaper each day, community issues they deem important and their positive and negative thoughts on the newspaper’s effectiveness in covering their neighborhoods and the issues they care about.
Small Groups and Facilitators After an initial group discussion, participants break into small groups for discussion, which is facilitated by Inc volunteers or local journalists.
Options for K-12 participants K-12 participants in Inc’s Family Reading Initiative are welcome at each Family Forum meeting. Activities centered around the newspaper are available for younger participants during each meeting.
Special Guests At least twice a year, Inc brings in guests from the journalism and civic communities to participate in Family Forums. Guests are invited based on topics discussed at prior meetings. Inc tries to connect participants and local decision makers, with whom they typically wouldn’t have an audience, who will provide feedback on issues of concern to their family.
Food and Transportation Inc provides dinner for participants and guests before each Family Forum. Food is available to everyone participating in any given meeting, and leftovers are sent home with families. Participants with transportation concerns are assisted to ensure their participation. |
