Involvement through News and Civics (Inc) teaches families the value of news and information, how to find it and how to use it to improve their lives and communities.

Inc’s Family Reading Initiative was designed to increase its participants’ Civic IQ (CIQ).

Inc believes an individual’s CIQ increases through exposure to traditional and alternative media as well as by developing an ability to access and navigate government and community services. As Civic IQ is developed, individuals will become more aware of community issues as well as opportunities to create change.

This awareness will serve to empower them to take action and truly impact the communities in which they live, from their home to their neighborhood to their city to their world.

Inc currently serves approximately 50 Atlantans through its Family Reading Initiative, which is available to families with children who qualify for the National School Lunch Program.

A monthly pledge of $25 can cover an entire family’s annual Family Reading Initiative, which can ultimately impact them in a way that enables their family to create change in their community. For donors, that’s a sacrifice of one dinner out each month!
